About the competitions

These engineering challenges ask participants to design solutions to real problems in spaceflight. Entries are judged on how well they meet a brief, and on how realistic, well reasoned and clearly explained they are.

Design themes

  • Satellite systems: structure, power, communication and instruments working together.
  • Lunar rovers: vehicles that can move and work on the surface of the Moon.
  • Space habitat modules: places where people could live and work in space or on another world.
  • Rocket propulsion concepts: ways of producing thrust to reach and travel through space.

What participants gain

Experience of the full design process: understanding a brief, weighing trade-offs, building or modelling a solution and presenting it to judges.
